ECHOES OF TOMORROW
SHORT FILM
At the start of summer, my friend and long-time collaborator Ben Dowie came to visit me and Cicely. Whenever we have the chance, we try to find something to work on together. During his visit, we set out with a loose plan and went to talk to our friend and neighbour, Susan.
As we sat with her, Susan shared stories from her life and her hopes for the future of humanity. It was a deeply inspiring, magical experience that came about so naturally—her wisdom and optimism left a lasting impact on all of us.
Since filming, Susan has received a difficult diagnosis, and this, amongst other personal events, made me stop and revisit that conversation. I quickly realised it now held an even greater significance, and it became clear what this film would be.
If I’m fortunate enough to live to 92, I hope I can look back on life with the same contentment and faith in the future that Susan shared with us that day. Susan’s wisdom and spirit continue to inspire us every day, reminding us of the importance of hope and faith in the future.
